Please join in on the fun and donate or participate in the UCLA Bruin Run/Walk. A 5K Benefiting the Chase Child Life Program at Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA. Join with the legends, Mike, my buddy Viktor or Jusus.
Again this year Todd partners with the HRC and APLA on the MLK Day of Service.
Let's come together as a community for MLK Day of Service. Taking place in January, MLK Day of Service is a "day on, not a day off."
It is a way to transform Dr. King's life and teachings into community action to help bring together people, strengthen communities, and meet national challenges.
One such challenge is supporting members of our communities affected by HIV/AIDS. HRC and AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA) invite you to partner with us on a service project benefiting people with HIV / AIDS in our Los Angeles community. As an HRC supporter, you have seen first-hand how we can make an impact when we join together and take action.
15 large boxes, 23 bank boxes and countless grocery bags full. Literally 100s of pounds of food -- All in one day. APLA is going to be quite surprised!

On December 1, 2013 (World AIDS Day), APLA will initiate a massive countywide food drive to secure donations of non-perishable food and personal hygiene items for persons living with HIV/AIDS.
Proper nutrition is so important to the health and well-being of people living with HIV/AIDS. But many thousands of APLA clients struggle to manage a complicated and chronic disease while facing desperate poverty and hunger that even the most hopeful economic recovery will not improve. Donations collected at the food drive will help supplement the food provided to the clients who visit the food pantries every week.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Individuals and groups are encouraged to conduct their own food drives in the weeks leading up to and after December 1st. This is the best way or you to help us collect much needed food and personal hygiene items.
The following items are being requested for the food drive:
*Whole grain cereal
*Canned meats
*Canned fruits and vegetables
*Chicken or vegetable stock
*Peanut butter
*Cooking oils
*Non-perishable 100% juices
*Evaporated milk
*Coffee and tea
*Personal hygiene items (toothpaste, shaving cream, shampoo, mouthwash, feminine hygiene products, etc.)
On December 1st, items can be dropped off at one of the following locations from 10AM-4PM:
*APLA Necessities of Life Program Warehouse, 7336 Bellaire Ave., North Hollywood 91605
*Pavilions West Hollywood, 8969 Santa Monica Blvd., West Hollywood 90069
Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties Office,
70 S. Lake Avenue, Pasadena 91101
We are thrilled that the Pavilions stores in Hollywood and West Hollywood have agreed to sell bags of groceries from November 1-December 25 for $10 as part of their Hunger Food Drive and have designated APLA as the beneficiary of these bags of food.

We were moved by the stories of these young people. As they signed up to support equality.

For the second year Todd joins up with the HRC for the Eagle Rock Music Festival. It is a different animal compared to LGBT events. This is an event that really gives us the opportunity to change hearts and minds. It gives us the chance to actually speak one-on-one with people who either are unaware of the inequalities of the LGBT community (which was MUCH more prevalent before Obama brought it to the forefront) or they just don’t understand. The fact that they’re at an alternative music event already means they’re open to new ideas.
We heard some great stories like how this parent's daughter came out to her and how she is dealing with this news. Another story of a family with a Trans child came out and the family is moving to avoid sigma from the old neighborhood.

Entertainment AIDS Alliance (EAA), is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1989 by Industry professionals to respond to the urgent need for funding of AIDS service organizations nationwide. EAA has distributed over $5 million to more than 155 national and community-based organizations that provide client services to people living with HIV and AIDS, institutions that conduct research for AIDS treatment and prevention, and advocacy groups that help shape and promote public policy advancing AIDS issues.
I have been in on the Steering Community of EAA for more than 5 years and every year WINE & WISOM has gotten bigger and bigger and is sold out every year. The benefactors UCLA Care Center and Common Ground: Westside Community HIV Service Center (in Santa Monia) are two organizations I am very familiar with and back 100%. I was a volunteer with Common Ground for more than 2 years. I support 2 fundraisers a year in June EAA’s WINE&WISOM and October AIDS WALK LA.

MLK Day of Service June 21, 2013 is the only federal holiday observed as a national day of service – a "day on, not a day off." By transforming Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life and teachings into community action, MLK Day of Service helps to meet national challenges by bringing together people, strengthening communities, and benefiting those who serve.
Todd along with the HRC and the Children, Youth & Family Services of the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center, we believe that we have a responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of our LGBT youth, who make up 40 percent of homeless and at-risk youth. In our first year participating in MLK Day of Service, we are pleased to announce a service project benefiting LGBT homeless youth in our Los Angeles community
